Secluded in the beautiful Gloucestershire countryside, British accoustic engineers ATC hand-build the most accurate professional reference loudspeakers in the world. ATC is committed to the advantages of active loudspeaker technology in which drive units, cabinets, electronic crossovers and power amplifiers are all conceived as a complete solution to the reproduction of source material with a degree of accuracy that a 'component' system can never match. Manufactured in house to exacting tolerances, ATC's drivers are legendary for their many design innovations.

The Soft Dome midrange driver achieves exceptionally broad even dispersion, so the reverberant sound field matches the on-axis sound. The result is a flat response, everywhere in the room. Unusually short voice coils remain immersed in the magnetic flux at all times, dramatically improving heat dispersion and linearity with a corresponding reduction in distortion, even at peak excursions. Coils are wound edgewise from specially milled copper wire, providing a higher density of conductor. This, together with new adhesive technology and small coil-gap clearances, allows extremely high power handling and excellent reliability. Massive, high power magnet systems maintain the dynamic range of the source material, while domes and cones are coated with specially formulated viscous dampening substances, efficiently dissipating all but the desired radiation of energy and further contributing to the exceptionally low levels of colouration. Our latest innovation is the use of Super Linear magnetic material, electrical insulators capable of supporting very high levels of magnetic flux, to eliminate distortion caused by eddy currents in the magnet pole piece and front plate. In most speakers this effect is masked by mechanical distortion; in the uncompromising ATC bass drivers, however, its removal produces linearity and low distortion comparable to a power amp rather than a speaker. Each drive unit is powered by its own amplifier, optimised for its relevant bandwidth (with substantially Class A midrange and high frequency amplification), delivering balanced maximum sound pressure levels. Substantial transient headroom with improved driver protection and precision control over speaker diaphragm travel. Even order filtered active crossovers are individually aligned at the factory and phase corrected for superb stereo imaging. Multi-channel monitoring is a key part of our activities well served by our uncompromising engineering philosophy.
